No cash splash at health and leisure centres
It may be April 1st, but we’re not joking - there’s free swimming now available at all the New Forest District Council health and leisure centres for the over 60s and under 17s.
This fantastic facility is available at Totton, Ringwood, Applemore, New Milton, and Lymington, where swimmers can splash out on fitness and save the pennies at the same time.
Giving the scheme their support, New Forest District Council Chairman Cllr Paul Woods, Leader Cllr Barry Rickman, Cllr Di Brooks, portfolio holder for leisure, culture and youth matters, and Bob Millard, head of leisure services, visited swimmers at Totton health and leisure centre.
To take part in the government-backed free swimming programme, eligible participants must register at any of the NFDC’s health and leisure centres.
There is a registration fee of £2.00 (except for under-8s, Swim Direct members and new Club Active members).
A form of identification and proof of age will be required such as passport, birth certificate, bus pass or driving licence.
Registration forms can also be downloaded online at newforest.gov.uk/leisure and taken to your chosen centre.
Cllr Di Brooks, NFDC portfolio holder for leisure, culture and youth matters, said:
“The council is delighted to offer this free facility at all its leisure centres. It is a demonstration of the way we are investing in the health of our residents.
Swimming is a wonderful way to stay healthy and I would urge all eligible swimmers to jump in and take advantage of this great opportunity for the over 60s and under 17s.”
